Faith That Moves
When it comes to faith, it is always directed toward God. People often ask, “Do you have faith in God?” But it’s less common to hear, “Do you believe in the Bible to the same degree?” Christians are usually quick to say, “I have full faith in God,” but may hesitate to say, “I have full faith in God’s Word.”
This hesitation may stem from the fact that the Bible was written over a span of 1,600 years, by about 40 human authors, across 66 books—all inspired by the Holy Spirit. Because of this human element, some find it hard to believe that the Bible is fully divine.
But the truth is: The Word of God is God.Therefore, it is divine. The Word of God loses its authority and power in our lives when we treat it as a diluted or flawed reflection of God. When we see the Bible as less than divine, we begin to adapt God’s Word to our lifestyle, rather than adapting our lives to His Word.
The early church held such unwavering faith in the Word of God that they were willing to die for it. Before Stephen was stoned to death, he essentially quoted over a thousand years of Scripture—pointing directly to the coming of Christ.
